John (Johannes) Manning (b. 12-17-1615, m. 1636, d. 1672)
born in Soham, Cambridge County, England and came to Norfolk, VA in 1635 at the age of 20 with his brother, Thomas, aboard the GLOBE from the port of London. The James Register of Ships recorded that John Manning went to Virginia on the Ship, Globe of London, in 1635.  He was granted 200 acres of land in 1648 for bringing four new settlers to the colony.  John and Lydia were married in Norfolk in 1636. In 1669 record is found of John and Lydia Manning living on the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River in Norfolk County, VA. On April 15, 1651, John Manning was appointed constable for Southern Branch, Lower Norfolk County.  He died in Norfolk County, VA.

Moses Manning II R.S. (b. 1731, m. 1753, d. 2-12-1810) - National DAR # 409, 079
born in New Kent County, VA; fought in the Marines in SC; he was a planter and a patriot; he lived and died near Latta, SC, near the Pee Dee River. He settled in Marion County before the Revolution because he sold beeves (cattle) to the SC State Militia during the Revolution and was paid for same. His sons fought under Gen. Francis Marion; he had his first recorded land grant for 600 acres surveyed 12-19-1787, in Book 20, p. 435.

William Manning (b. 1763, d. 1810)
born in VA. The family moved to Prince George Parish, SC, during the Revolution. William and family moved to Glynn County about 1800 at the same time his parents moved there and William died there in 1810. His widow moved with her children to Wayne County about 1812 and continued to live there until her death in 1847. Moses Manning II sold to William Manning 362 acres that was granted to Moses' brother, Martin Manning, on October 11, 1796.  Moses had inherited the property from his brother's will.  William received a land grant of 120 acres on May 7, 1810 which was recorded in Book K6, p. 153.

born in Glynn County, GA; moved to Wayne County with his widowed Mother after his father’s death and lived there until his death about 1854. He was living alone in Wayne County in the 1840 census. He was granted 200 acres of land in Glynn County in 1838, land lying on or near the Glynn-Wayne County line; he owned two slaves according to the 1850 census.
